Hamilton is an inner northern suburb of the City of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia, which is situated on the north bank of the Brisbane River along Hamilton Reach. At the 2011 Australian census the suburb recorded a population of 4,721. In Brisbane’s early history, Hamilton was the home to many nobles and clergy. This suburb is recognized for being an “old wealth” suburb compared to “new wealth” suburbs in Brisbane such as Toowong, Paddington and Indooroopilly. Many of Brisbane’s popular mansions are located in Hamilton because the elite suburb boasts magnificent views of the entire central business district and other surrounding suburbs.
It is believed the first hotel in the district was built by the Gustavus Hamilton (father of Messrs. F. G. Hamilton, barrister, and R. Hamilton, surveyor). Amongst the earlier occupants of the hotel was a Mrs. Warren, who, by chance, married another Mr. Hamilton, this means that the hotel was occupied by different families with the name Hamilton. The Hamilton Hotel became an easy reference spot in the days when buildings were still limited in the district, and its name was gradually applied to the whole district.
Due to the topography of the region being hilly and greenery, a massive range of trees parade the majority of the suburb. Tree roots cause enormous damage underground and often times these roots crawl its way to various underground pipe openings leading to serious blockage of water supply. Water flow issues due to incorrect pipe installation with inadequate falls contribute to the buildup of particles and substances which eventually lead to clogged drains. Other culprits of these drain issues include grease, oil and fatty affluences that continue to wash down the drains and over time leads to accumulation and sticks to the linings of pipes which make it hard for water to flow effectively.
