Northgate is a residential and industrial suburb which lies on the Sandgate railway line and is located 10 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD. Located on Earnshow Road is the Golden Circle processing plan which takes up over a kilometer stretch with factories producing all the Golden Circle foods found in almost all stores around Australia.
Northgate was a mature suburb by the 1970s and by the 1990s was being marketed as a cheaper alternative to Clayfield’s high-priced housing. The city is accessible via rail, bus or the Gateway Motorway. The region’s land area mainly includes industrial and residential where most inter war dwellings can be found on Northgate Hill—elevated land that rises west of the railway station; and post-World War II real estate on “the flat”—the large arc of flat land that extends to Moreton Bay at Nudgee Beach with most of the housing stock being post WWII.
Due to the suburbs condition of living and industrialization, many people go to the place to live and work. With the continuous construction of homes and factories, continuous ground movements are primary cause of unwanted damaged to underground pipes and this may eventually lead to foreign substances, sand and silt to build up inside crack openings of these water lines. This may prevent continuous flow of water. Grease and fat that are washed down kitchen sinks are common causes of clogged drains in households. Although these may not be evident at first, over time, these sticks in the linings of the pipes and may cause water to be block as they solidify. Hair build-up also contributes to blocked drains as they worsen if no actions are placed.
