Rochedale is an outer suburb of Brisbane located 17 kilometres south-east of the Brisbane Central Business District. It has a population of 1, 092 as recorded by the 2011 Australian Census.
The suburb’s name came from the Roche family from Ireland who emigrated to Australia in 1860. In 1868, the family built a homestead which they called Rochedale. Residential developments in the area began in the 1960s. The Rochedale State School was established in 1931 while the Redeemer Lutheran College was opened in 1981.
In 2009, a major urban community development in Rochedale has been approved by the Brisbane City Council turning bush and farm lands into housing estates. This development is expected to result to a major growth in population to over 17, 000 residents within 15-20 years.
