Named after a former Governor of Queensland, Bowen Hills is an inner city region located 3 kms northeast of the Brisbane CBD. With a rich history dating back centuries when an indigenous tribe occupied the area, a significant number of landmark sites have been built here to preserve its heritage. One of its most notable establishments is the Miegunyah House, built in 1886 by William Perry. This beautiful colonial style home remains in tact, and caters to many historical talks and themed exhibitions. Additionally, recreational facilities such as the Bowen Park and Perry Park Stadium, and well connected transport systems are available for Bowen Hills’ budding community.
To cater to the growing needs of the increasing Brisbane population, the many residential apartment complexes that are constructed in the area are complemented by a number of commercial developments. Because much of the piping in the area is quite old and due to ongoing construction, there are regular issues with collapsed, blocked or broken pipes here. Like many other suburbs in Brisbane, the green landscape causes tree roots to grow into cracked pipes in areas that are less built-up.
