Clayfield is an inner suburb of Brisban. It is located approximately 7 kilometers from the Brisbane CBD. This is bordered to the north by Nundah, East side by Ascot and Hendra, Wooloowin in the west and to the South by Albion. It is believed that the suburb’s name came from the deposits of clay used to make bricks in the nearby suburb of Hendra. This was once tagged as “the clay fields”, which was influential in the rise of the European settlement in the inner-north Brisbane. The region also includes vicinity of Eagle Junction, which later on became a separate suburb during the late 60s.
The suburb has been majority residential and hundreds of families continue to be attracted living in this region due to the surge of real estates and apartment units. The shopping strip once a setting for antique outlets is placed with real estate offices, although, everyday retail essentials are serviced for. There are also shops in Junction Road which is east of Sandgate Road, and to the west at Eagle Junction. Other than the Clayfield College and St Rita’s there are also St Agatha’s Catholic primary school and Eagle Junction State primary.
