Inala is a suburb of the City of Brisbane in Queensland Australia located 18 kilometres south-west of the Brisbane Central Business District. It is a multicultural community with more than 20 different nationalities and has a population of 13, 769 according to the 2011 Australian Census. The suburb is considered a gateway to the nearby suburbs of Wacol and Heathwood.
After the Second World War, there was a shortage of houses across the country and the government responded by making sufficient housing a priority. In 1945, the Queensland Housing Commission was established and the Inala estate was one of the earliest and biggest projects developed by the Commission. Reinforced yet durable and flexible materials were used for the construction of these houses after the war to minimize housing costs.
A number of shopping centres are accessible within the area with a large variety of shops and restaurants that cater well to the ethnically diverse community. There are also government funded communities and organizations within the area and various government facilities like the Brisbane City Council Library, Department of Communities, Department of Corrective Services and Centrelink office. Churches and temples can also be found in the area.
The suburb has sports and recreational facilities as well, outdoor recreational areas and one of the best skate parks in the city. The area has a lot of big native trees that create a lush atmosphere in the community.
