Mount Gravatt is a suburb of Brisbane where a prominent hill of the same name stands. It is located 10 kilometres south-east of the Brisbane Central Business District. It was one of the largest suburbs before it was divided into three separate areas: Mount Gravatt East, Upper Mount Gravatt, and Mount Gravatt South which was later on changed to Wishart in the 1990s. The suburb has a population of 3, 238 as recorded by the 2011 Australian Census.
It was in 1840 that Mount Gravatt Hill was named after the commander of the Moreton Bay Settlement at that time, Lieutenant George Gravatt. The Mount Gravatt Showgrounds became a significant venue for cultural activities and events for the community, like the annual Mount Gravatt Show which is an agricultural fair.
The main campus of Griffith University is located in the suburb. Other schools in the area are St. Catherine’s School, St. Agnes Catholic Primary School, Mount Gravatt State High School, and Mount Gravatt State School.
Since one of Brisbane’s prominent hills is located in the area, where a lot of plant life and trees grow, drainage blockage can be a problem due to collapsed pipes because of large tree roots growing underground. Tree roots are the number one cause of blockages and these can create cracks in your pipes which can hugely affect daily tasks and routines at home.
Blockages in pipes can be really nasty, preventing wastewater from leaving your household or property. If you’re having difficulty in flushing your toilet or if you see that water drains away slowly, this could be a sign of blockage in your pipelines.
