Sunnybank is a residential suburb which progressed during the late 1950s and 1960s and is situated 12 kilometres south of Brisbane CBD. It is positioned between the upper reaches of the Rocky Water Holes Creek and the Bulimba Creek’s western headwater. The suburb was named after an early settler-farmer’s property, Sunnybrae. At the 2011 Australian Census the suburb recorded a population of 8,091.
With new land releases rare in the region, developers have turned to building higher density residential and commercial projects. With the continuous construction and progress, ground movements and excavations may cause unwanted damaged to old fixtures of pipes and underground waterlines which may result to crack and openings. This may in turn invite sand and silt deposits causing blockages in the flow of water. Since the region is generally hilly and greenery, most of the tree roots may enter cracked pipes, these roots settle inside pipes to get a supply of water and cause an obstruction in the movement of sewage water to its destination. Leaves and debris are also led towards drainages and can definitely block water from streaming down the outlet.
